Why Legal Notices are authenticated

Legal Notice records are authenticated to improve information quality, reduce the risk of misidentification and preserve verifiable source provenance for lawful professional research. The source material originates from publicly issued Government Gazettes. Public pages disclose aggregate cohort statistics only. Named parties, complete identifiers, verbatim Gazette material and Lex Gazette authentication outcomes are restricted to registered users, subject to purpose limitation, access logging, responsible-use duties and correction procedures.

Professional and responsible-use attestation

When I accept this attestation:

1. I confirm that I am accessing Lex Gazette for the lawful professional purpose I have stated and that my access is connected to legal, fiduciary, insolvency, compliance, due-diligence, risk-management or bona fide research work.
2. I will process personal information only to the extent reasonably necessary for that purpose and will apply appropriate confidentiality, access control, retention and disposal measures.
3. I will not use the Service for identity fraud, impersonation, harassment, intimidation, unlawful surveillance, unsolicited marketing, unrelated profiling, bulk harvesting, credential sharing, public republication of identifiable records or creation of an unrelated personal-information database.
4. I will preserve source context and will not present a normalized or authenticated value as though it was the verbatim Gazette publication.
5. I will verify material against the cited Government Gazette and, where appropriate, the relevant official registry before relying on it for legal, regulatory or commercial action.
6. I understand that an authentication outcome is a source-linked research result at the time it was produced. It is not legal advice, an identity warranty, a credit report or a guarantee of current status.
7. I will protect my credentials, prevent unauthorised access, report suspected errors or misuse and cooperate with reasonable security, correction, restriction or investigation measures.
8. I will comply with the Terms of Use, the Privacy Notice, applicable law and the professional duties that apply to my work.

Why the attestation is separate

The Terms form the access agreement. The Privacy Notice explains the responsible party's processing. This attestation records the user's stated professional purpose and responsible-use commitment. It is not used to obtain consent from persons named in the Gazette and it does not transfer the responsible party's POPIA accountability to the user.

Service safeguards and accountability

The responsible party remains accountable for determining the purposes and means of its processing and for implementing lawful-processing conditions, information quality, openness, security, retention, participation and any required regulatory assessment or authorisation. A login wall and attestation are safeguards; they are not, by themselves, a complete statement of compliance.

Access may be suspended, restricted or terminated where use is inconsistent with this attestation or where reasonably necessary for security, investigation, a data-subject request, a lawful instruction or protection of another person's rights.
